2004 6.0 tuning
Is it worth tuning an 04 2500 with a 6.0 for better fuel economy? it is stock right now but what mods to do to it before tuning it? no cam or head swap for me, just regular mods that will make a difference. Also it has 4.10 gears so I may swap those out for 3.73 or 3.42 as this truck will never tow heavy loads other than a car hauler.

Re: 2004 6.0 tuning
MAYBE 2-3 MPG TOPS.. JUST BY NAILING THE FUEL TRIMS WILL GET YOU CLOSE TO STOICH AT CRUISE. BECAUSE YOUR TRUCK HAS THE 4L80E THOUGH YOU CAN GET MUCH BETTER ACCELL BY KILLING OFF THE TQ MAN. THE 4L80 IS BULLETPROOOF... IF YOU WANT TO TO RUN GOOD GAS ONLY YOU CAN GET EVEN MORE POWER.. IM NOT DOING TUNING ANYMORE MYSELF RICK AND FRANK @ UNLIMITED PERFORMANCE ARE THE MEN FOR THE JOB NOW. I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO DEAL WITH IT.. THESE GUYS ARE GOOD AND THEY HAVE ME FOR SUPPORT IF NEEDED WHICH ISNT OFTEN.
I PAID FOR THE CREDIT ON MY 2500 AND IT WAS VERY MUCH WORTH IT.. |

Re: 2004 6.0 tuning
Yup the Torque management really kills the acceleration on those trucks. If you are interested in tunning it we have you covered. Call either Frank or Me and we can set you up with a few ideas which can help you out.

Re: 2004 6.0 tuning
Hey rob or rick, is it better to leave it stock or do any minor mods like exhaust, intake, etc... I also need to pull out the 4.1 gears and put in a different set. Rick do you have robbies setup saved or will we have to do some tests to nail it down?

Re: 2004 6.0 tuning
I would get a magnaflow muffler on there. They are the best flowing muffler (straight through design) for the price and keep the truck fairly quiet while giving it a nice deep tone. The 6.0 2500HD's come with duals from the Factory they have 3" TD's to the muffler then Y into a Single 3.5" tailpipe. Magnaflow makes a muffler that is a dual 3" inlet to a Single outlet that works perfect for this.
I would also get a Open element filter of your choice while we are at it. Dosent have to be anything super expensive as the difference is minimal (1-3hp) Both of these will help on the gas mileage if you keep your foot regulated (hard to do LoL). As far as the tune. I have the Transmission tune saved but every truck is a little different so i might have to make minor adjustments to the Maf/VE tables to get her just right.

Re: 2004 6.0 tuning
Cool, Also how much to swap out the 4.10 gears and put 3.42 in this rearend? Dam 3.42s are not cheap but i only looked at one place, 3.73 & 4.10 are so much cheaper.
